First Update

Our 20 week ultrasound was in the middle of November. A few days later we got a call from the Dr. saying he had to meet with us to discuss the results and he couldn't do it over the phone. When I met with the Dr. in the morning he told me that I have complete placenta previa. This means that the placenta is covering the cervix. This is not good for a number of reasons. As the baby grows and put pressure on the cervix it is now putting pressure on the placenta. This pressure will cause the placenta to bleed and possibly rupture, which would mean we would lose the baby and my life would be in danger if I did not get to the hospital in minutes. I found out that I would have to have a C-section no matter what happens and the baby would not make it to full-term. Either the placenta would rupture and they would have to take the baby out or the Dr. would decide when the baby was big enough that the risk to me was too great and take the baby then. Our plan was to take it easy, do not excercise or pick up anything, rest as much as possible and consider cutting down my days at work. We were going to go with that plan until I had any bleeding. It was very upsetting news and within 2 hours I was bleeding and had to go to the hospital.
I stayed there Wednesday and they let me go home that afternoon with a new plan. The new plan was complete bed rest until further notice. Our goal is to get the baby to Week 24 where it has a better chance of survival if I start bleeding again and they have to take the baby out.

Needless to say- we have a lot to think about and work out and we are very worried and stressed about the unknown. The loss of control over things has left me tense and tension is what I am supposed to be avoiding. Our family could use your prayers as we try to work through this news.

24 Weeks!

We made it to the first goal our Dr. set for us! 24 weeks is the age of vialbility when there is more than 70% chance of survival for the baby. We are not out of the woods- because we do not want a baby that is 24 weeks old. So- our next goal is 28 weeks.
That will be December 28th. Keep us in your prayers. They are working so far!
